NILA FAQ

  • What is required to attend?
    • Students: Be a PAID and APPROVED SHPE member for the 2018-2019 fiscal year to register and renew your membership on July 1, 2018 to attend. APPROVED resume created on the SHPEConnect system
    • Professionals:Be a PAID and APPROVED SHPE member for the 2018-2019 fiscal year to register and renew your membership on July 1, 2018 to attend.
    • Only Two SHPE Chapter E-Board Members can attend
    • Must attend mandatory virtual webinars prior to the start of NILA
    • Must submit their Chapter Management Tools prior to NILA

NOTE: NILA IS AN INTENSE PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR THE ATTENDEE TO BE PRESENT FOR THE DURATION, STARTING ON WEDNESDAY FOR STUDENTS AND THURSDAY FOR PROFESSIONALS. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE ENTIRE CONFERENCE, PLEASE SELECT ANOTHER REPRESENTATIVE TO ATTEND FROM YOUR CHAPTER, AS MISSING ANY OF THE SCANNED EVENTS WILL RESULT IN A DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE CCLP (CERTIFIED CHAPTER LEADERSHIP PROGRAM).

  • What does registration include?
    • Keynotes, workshops, case studies and materials
    • Travel Stipend to Oklahoma City, OK
    • Three complete meals, plus snacks throughout the day (Thursday/Friday – Saturday)
    • Shared hotel accommodations
      • Students – four per room
      • Professionals – two per room
    • Leadership Commencement Ceremony
  • Where can I find the registration form?
    • All registrations will be processed online via SHPEConnect. We do not have a paper registration form available. However, you can print your receipt from SHPEConnect. If you require an invoice, please contact registration@shpe.org.
  • Can I pay my registration fee by check or money order?
    • Payment by credit card via SHPEConnect only.
    • For university issued checks, please contact registration@shpe.org. Include "School-Issued Payment for NILA 2018" in the subject line.
  • I received an error message when making my online registration payment.
    • DO NOT submit your payment transaction more than once. If you receive an error submitting your credit card payment, please send an email with the error message to registration@shpe.org.
  • I became a SHPE paid member and I still do not have access to register.
    • Students
      • SHPEConnect checks if you are a PAID and APPROVED SHPE member for the 2018-2019 membership year and a resume must be created on SHPEConnect.
      • *Please verify your membership is current and resume is APPROVED (for students).
    • Professionals
      • SHPEConnect checks if you are a PAID and APPROVED SHPE member for the 2018-2019 membership year.
      • Please allow an hour for the system to refresh and read your active membership.
  • How do I create a SHPEConnect ID?
    • If you do not have a SHPEConnect ID, go to the SHPEConnect login page and click on "Create SHPEConnect ID". If you have any questions, please contact membership@shpe.org.
  • When will I receive my confirmation notice?
    • A notice will be emailed immediately from SHPEConnect confirming registration.
  • How do I make hotel arrangements?
    • Hotel arrangements are made through SHPE and requires no further action from the attendee. We will provide your hotel confirmation one week before the conference. Students will be housed four per room and professionals will be housed two per room.
    • All local members must stay at the NILA hotel. The NILA conference prohibits attendees going in/out of the conference.
  • When do I arrive?
    • Students – Wednesday August 8th, 2018 between the hours of 12:00 PM -4:00 PM CDT.
    • Professionals - Thursday August 9th, 2018 between the hours of 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM CDT.
  • How do I make travel arrangements?
    • Travel arrangements will be made by the attending leader. Leaders must plan to arrive at the hotel before 4:00 PM CDT.
  • How will I get my travel stipend?
    • Once your travel is confirmed, email your airfare receipt (if driving send your planned route map) and a completed SHPE Travel Stipend Form to Finance@shpe.org. Your travel stipend check will be handed to you onsite at NILA.
    • If you do not submit your receipt/map and reimbursement form before you arrive to the conference, you will not be eligible for reimbursement post conference.
  • Two executive board members from my chapter would like to attend NILA.
    • Professional and student chapters are guaranteed one chapter executive board member to attend NILA. Registration and payment are required by the registration deadline, June 15, 2018. The second chapter executive board member will be placed on a waiting list on a first come, first served basis and will be notified on June 11, 2018.
  • Can I register my chapter executive board member(s) instead of having them register individually?
    • Chapter executive board members do not have the option to register a second officer or an officer other than themselves on SHPEConnect.
  • What are the registration deadlines?
    • Registration deadline: June 15th, 2018 11:55 PM PST
  • What if my chapter has exhausted all resources and does not have any funding?
    • SHPE offers full sponsorship to attend NILA to eligible chapters.
    • Deadline to Apply: June 1st. More information on the sponsorship application will be available, Friday, May 11th.
    • You can do a fundraiser with your chapter or formally contact local companies to request financial assistance.
  • What is the Cancellation Deadline?
    • All cancellations must be received by email registration@shpe.org. Include "Cancellation for NILA 2018" in the subject line.
    • Cancellations received by July 9th, 2018 11:59 PM PST, are eligible for a 50% refund of registration fees. Cancellations received after July 9th, 2018 11:59 PST, are not eligible for a refund of registration fees.
  • What if I received a sponsorship and I need to cancel?
    • If you are a travel sponsorship recipient and you CANCEL or are a "NO SHOW", you will be invoiced for full payment of your airfare stipend if your flight is reserved.
  • What do I do if we want an executive board member from our chapter to attend NILA, but elections have not taken place?
    • If chapter elections have not taken place, you may register and submit payment for your chapter and submit the name of the participant after elections (by July 9th, 2018) to registration@shpe.org.
  • I can't attend NILA, but someone else from my chapter executive board wants to replace me.
    • You are allowed to send a replacement from your chapter if you are not able to attend. All replacements and name changes must be made by July 9th, 2018 11:59 PM PST to registration@shpe.org
  • I attended NILA last year. Can I attend again this year?
    • Due to the fact that the educational curriculum is updated every 3 years, attendance is restricted to once every three years. However, another executive board member can attend on behalf of your chapter.
